Excelsior Aged Care purchase grows Mercy in Shepparton

John Ballard - CEO of Mercy Health and Aged CareMercy Health & Aged Care has purchased Excelsior Aged Care in Shepparton.  The elderly residents who live in the home will continue to be cared for by Excelsior staff, all of whom will become Mercy Health & Aged Care employees.

Mercy Health & Aged Care is expanding its aged care division in response to increasing community needs in the Goulburn Valley Region. The purchase of Excelsior Aged Care will take the total number of licensed beds operated by Mercy Health & Aged Care, across Victoria, and into New South Wales, to over 1,100.

Excelsior Aged Care was well designed, and built by Dawn & Terry Hall.  The facility offers a high level of resident amenity, including spacious lounge and dinning room areas, filled with natural light, and a gymnasium, all of which is supported by state-of-the-art-technologies.

"I am very excited to extend Mercy's aged care services to the Shepparton communities," says Mr John Ballard, CEO of Mercy Health & Aged Care.

"The Sisters of Mercy have been actively present in this area for over 100 years," he says

As part of its commitment to high quality care, Mercy Health & Aged Care will immediately focus on implementing a program of continuous improvement and education for staff. Excelsior Aged Care, which will be renamed Mercy Health & Aged Care Shepparton, has been master planned and has space for an additional 24 beds, which would take the facility to 90 beds.

The facility will be well supported by Mercy's networks and infrastructure. In addition, Mercy Health & Aged Care is bidding, in the current Commonwealth Aged Care Allocation Round, to operate bed licences at Mooroopna, which will be located on the former hospital site.
