Employer of choice for women

Mercy Health has been announced an Employer of Choice for Women for the third consecutive year. The Employer of Choice citation recognises Mercy Health as an Australian leader in driving change for a more equitable workplace.

Mercy Health's third consecutive EOCFW citation was announced this morning by the Minister for the Status of Women, The Hon Tanya Plibersek MP at a ceremony celebrating International Women's Day.

Mercy Health is a Catholic community benefit organisation employing over 4,500 people. Mercy Health provides acute and sub-acute hospital care, aged care, mental health programs, specialist women's health, early parenting, palliative, home and community care, and health worker training and development.

Women hold 60% of senior management positions reporting to the CEO and 71% of all senior management positions. Almost 51% of Mercy Health's 4500 employees access flexible working arrangements. Mercy Health has a 98% retention rate and a 97% return rate from Parental Leave.

Mercy Health CEO John Ballard said the Employer of Choice for Women citation further reinforces Mercy Health's position as a leader in driving change for an equitable workplace.

"Our priority is to always care first," Mr Ballard said. "We achieve this through the attraction and retention of talented people, committed to caring for others. "We have worked hard to implement a range of workplace practices and initiatives that assist our people to integrate and balance their careers with the demands of life." The citation follows a host of recent awards for Mercy Health including The Leading Organisation for the Advancement of Women at the 2009 EOWA Business Achievement Awards and Diversity and Inclusion Champion at the Diversity@Work Awards.

John Ballard also recently received the Lynda Gratton CEO of the Year award at the AHRI (Australian Human Resources Institute) Awards.
